Susan Lumsdon is an award-winning Director of Photography working across feature films, TV drama, documentaries, and music videos. She is known for creating evocative imagery that supports character and story, and for her collaborative, technically skilled approach on set.
 
Her recent work includes three Netflix series produced by Film Gate in the UAE: Home of Life, Scattered Barriers, and Dreams Drawn by Dust (currently streaming).
 
Susan has shot six feature films, including:
  • Salt Along the Tongue, distributed internationally by Yellow Veil Pictures after its SXSW Sydney premiere.
  • Bloodshot Heart, winner of Best Cinematography at the 18˚ Salento International Film Festival and a finalist at AACTA and ATOM Awards.
  • Risen, a sci-fi thriller filmed in extreme sub-zero conditions in Canada, which won Best Cinematography at both the New York Independent Cinema Awards and Toronto Beaches Film Festival.
  • Promise Mum, an Indigenous Road movie filmed on the NSW North Coast and soon to be released.
 
With a background as a cinematographer at Australian Broadcasting Corporation and a global slate of documentaries, Susan brings versatility to every production. She is a skilled operator (including drone, Gimbal, and Steadicam), experienced with VFX and stunts.  At home working with natural-light on location as well as with large lighting teams. She regularly collaborates with Panavision and works with top-tier cameras and lenses including the Arri Alexa, Sony Venice, and RED Raptor.
