Susan has worked as a Director of Photography across a broad range of moving image projects including feature films, TV drama, short films, documentaries, music videos and sketch comedy.
In all her work she strives to use the camera to create evocative images that reflect and explore character journeys and story themes. She is known for eliciting high production values and working as part of a team. Flexible and easy going, Susan has a strong work ethic and high-level technical knowledge.
Recent credits include three series for Film Gate Productions & Netflix in the United Arab Emirates: Home of Life (8 Eps); Scattered Barriers (6 Eps) and Dreams Drawn by Dust currently screening on Netflix (6 Eps).
She has photographed four feature films.
Bloodshot Heart, which won Best Cinematography at 18˚ Salento International Film Festival 2021 and was a finalist at the Perth International Film Festival, AACTA & ATOM awards.
Risen, a sci-fi set in the American mid-west and shot in Canada and Australia. Shot in under sub- zero temperatures of -34˚C, it won Best Cinematography both at the New York Independent Cinema Awards, and the Toronto Beaches Film Festival.
Lady Ifrita, an African horror film, shot in 6k Raw on a Sony Venice. Currently in post- production and most recently the Indigenous road movie Promise Mum shot along the NSW North coast.
She spent eight years as “A” Camera in-house at Australian broadcaster ABC TV and has shot multiple documentaries across the globe.
She has experience working alongside stunts, armourers, fight co-ordinators and VFX teams. She is a gifted operator and has filmed from helicopters, boats, aeroplanes and motorbikes. She has worked with Gimbal, Steadicam, and Jimmy Jib operation.
Adding to her repertoire, Susan is a licensed drone pilot.
Her extensive lighting experience allows her to operate with or without gaffers on location or sets.
Susan has long professional relationships with Panavision in Australia, Canada, and Los
Angeles. She has extensive experience working with Anamorphic and Spherical lenses on the
Arri Alexa, Panavision DXL 2, Sony Venice and the Red Monstro.
